Signage and Banner FAQ's

Q: What are vinyl graphics?
A: Vinyl graphics include letters and logos that are precisely cut out of a large sheet of vinyl. This allows the production of high quality color graphics that can be used on many signs, windows, commercial vehicles, boats, and airplanes.

Q: How much does a sign cost?
A: Signs can be designed to fit any budget. It makes sense to define a budget and let us design what works best within that budget.

Q: What computer formats do you need and how can we get them to you?
A: For cutting vinyl lettering we need a vectorized format. An .eps works the best. For printing and full color printing we can take most graphic formats such as .jpg, .gif, .tif, .AI, and most bitmap formats. We use an IBM format but can usually convert from MAC (not always). We also have scanners and can scan "Camera Ready" art. The better the original art the better the final result. We also have the ability to extract art from just about anything (business cards, napkins, tattoos) but we will charge accordingly for art clean up.

Q: What separates A-Tec Signs & Graphics apart from other "vinyl" sign shops?
Answer: While the majority of our customers receive their signs within a few days after ordering, our emphasis is on producing a quality product rather than an "instant" sign. We double check every sign to insure that no mistakes have been made.

Q: Which is better for window graphics; vinyl lettering or hand lettering?
A: It depends on the look you want and the longevity desired. Hand lettering is great for temporary purposes. Even with a clear coat, hand lettering must be redone every couple of months. Vinyl lettering is computer generated so the lines are exact and the letters are perfectly spaced and sized to fit the window. Vinyl lettering is perfect for store hours, logos, stripes or anything that will remain on the windows for years.

Q: Who provides the artwork?
A: We can design the artwork for you or you can provide us with existing artwork. If we design the artwork we can fax you a proof for approval. If you provide the artwork, we'll need a computer file or 8 1/2"x 11" camera ready artwork.

Q: How do I prepare files for vinyl signage.
A: The best format for transferring files to our software is EPS version 3.0. Vinyl signs are decals cut out of vinyl. You'll want to avoid blends, and line thicknesses. If you have thicker lines, convert them to outlines. Fonts must be converted to curves. Overlaps should be removed, but we can do that in our software. While trapping is often employed, let us decide if it is suitable.

Q: What colors can I use?
A: There are many varieties, finishes and colors available in vinyl. However, this list is not unlimited. There are "standard" colors. If you have a color match you need to verify, email us and ask. We can paint custom colors at additional costs.
